Music can have immense benefits for people suffering from dementia. It helps reduce anxiety, depression, maintains speech and language, enhances quality of life, and can have a positive impact on those who care for those who suffer from it.
About Us
In 2019, Louise Curtis set up a choir in the town of Lochgilphead, Argyll, in loving memory of her father, whom she and her sister Sharon lost in 2022 to Vascular Dementia. Music was a massive part of their lives growing up, so when he was diagnosed, music was their bond with their dad, after losing his ability to communicate verbally, he smiled when his favorite song “Long Cool Woman in a black dress” or band was played on the “wireless”, ….. The Community “Forget Me Not” Choir was born.
The Choir offers a safe, enriched environment, in Lochgilphead and in Tarbert where members can relax and enjoy an afternoon of singing, laughter, sparking up old friendships and making new ones.
To be part of this choir its a great privilege and honour and a big thank you to our communities that are all very supportive.
The choir performs throughout Argyll, from small gatherings to large events, at all our “GIGS” we hope to play a significant role in achieving and promoting music as a therapeutic benefit, and at the same time raising awareness about dementia and its effects it can have on mental health and well-being for those diagnosed and also loved one and carers.
